‘Welcome to the Hope Street Hotel – where you check in married, and check out single.’
Love Me or Leave Me by Claudia Carroll was the first book I had read of it’s kind. The story illustrates a woman named Chloe who was left at the altar whose life was left in tatters, or so she though. Chloe lands herself an excellent new job as she puts her life back into order.
The book shares perspectives from a series of different couples in different situations from ambiguity, the stress of IVF and the impact of the media. A wide variety of couples and situations allow the reader to dip in and out of the array of lifestyles as they please.
I particularly enjoyed the way in which Carroll told the story from every couples perspective at the same time so the reader has a clear painted picture of what was going on at all times in the hotel.
I was fond of the way that the story introduced hope and a number of alternative endings. I am a sucker for happy endings, so to have more than one happy ending in the same book is as you can imagine, is gratifying.
This was the first book I have ever read from Claudia Carroll but one must be truthful and the truth is it will most likely be my last! I enjoyed the story line and the way in which the characters were portrayed. However whilst reading I came across 11 grammatical errors and small things such as a double repetition of the word ‘the’ that clearly was not meant to be there. I also did not feel that I personally connected with Carroll and her style of writing but that is something you learn as you read more and start to understand the way in which you like to be spoken to in a book and what grips your attention the most.
You will notice a lot of my reviews are based on romance novels, however I do try and mix up the storylines I choose. I found this one to be disparate from my other reads and I will always encourage others to stray from their comfort zone every now and then. In fact a couple of my favourite novels include chilling thrills and crime!
